if “heteroromantic bisexual” had been around when i was 15 i guarantee you i would have been all over that shit. i would have been so grateful to find an official identity that let me minimize my attraction to women as just physical, not something that could get in the way of my having a Normal relationship and marrying a man. i wouldn’t have been fully conscious of this motivation but it would have been there and it would have been extremely unhealthy for me, not to mention false. i know so many women who could say the same and i can’t pretend that this is a totally safe and neutral concept to present to young same-gender-attracted girls.

This is incredibly ace and arophobic, it is terrible that you had internalized homophobia as a kid but straight people are literally the ones to blame for that, please stop saying that our contributions to mogai discourse are worthless and realizing that shifting the blame for these things onto us and our created terminology is not going to solve the problem.

there is a big difference between saying that this construct is TO BLAME for homophobia and saying that it’s not neutral or infallible, was not conceived in a bubble magically free of homophobic influence, and can in fact do additional harm to lbpq women

and there’s also a big difference between the idea of sexual and romantic attractions differing because you’re asexual but you still like people romantically, and the idea that it’s totally natural and neutral to be attracted to both genders but see the same gender as only sexual and not viable partners, in the context of a society that discourages and punishes same-gender attraction on a profound and systematic level
